The Australian Jillaroos found the winning trifecta of captains at the last Rugby League World Cup so it's no surprise they have gone down the same path to defend their crown.
Ali Brigginshaw, Sam Bremner and Kezie Apps are co-captains for this World Cup and all three will play in the tournament opener against the Cook Islands in Cork on Wednesday night.
Brigginshaw said the move was a proven winning formula which ensured they had "all bases covered".
Brigginshaw played under the co-leadership of Steph Hancock, Renae Kunst and Ruan Sims when Australia won the 2017 World Cup when current coach Brad Donald was also in charge.
"So it is something Brad has done before. I don't think it is anything out of the ordinary. It takes the pressure off one individual," she told AAP.
"We have got short (four-day) turnarounds and you don't know what is going to happen, when fatigue will set in and who needs a break.
"Sam and Kezie are my great mates and there is nothing better than working with your great mates.
"We are very different leaders, bring different strengths and have different ideas but we come together as one when we need to get something done."
The trio ooze experience. Bremner won the 2013 World Cup, Apps was a member of the 2017 title-winning team and Brigginshaw was a member of the 2013 and 2017 champion outfits.
"It's a great partnership," Bremner told AAP.
"Kez will lead on the field. She takes all the tough carries. She is strong. She is resilient.
"Ali is very composed. She articulates to everyone her wealth of knowledge about the game and helps them understand why they are doing things. She has that on-field coach role."
Bremner said becoming a better listener had enhanced her leadership skills. It is how others view her that will be her barometer of how good a leader she is.
"When I was playing in the 2014 Origin someone came in as a guest speaker and said 'you want to be the player that people tell stories about how they loved playing next to you'.
"If the girls say they love playing with me that makes me feel like I've done my job correctly on and off the field as a leader."
The Jillaroos are expected to beat the Cook Islands but Brigginshaw said complacency would not be an issue.
"We have (10) girls pulling on the jersey for the first time and I am sure they will do a great job. The Cook Islands will be tough first up and in new conditions. We will have to adjust."
