Jets great D’Brickashaw Ferguson announces he is going to nursing school

D’Brickashaw Ferguson will go down as one of the greatest players in the history of the New York Jets. That was cemented last season when the Jets inducted him into their Ring of Honor. He gave a lot to fans on the football field. Now, he’ll look to give back in a different way.

Ferguson recently appeared on the “NFL Players Second Acts” podcast with Charles Tillman and Roman Harper and announced that he will be attending nursing school.

Ferguson had already taken prerequisite classes at community college and will start nursing school in the fall. Ferguson wanted to show he can offer more than just football.

“I wanted something that I could offer. Like, yes I play football, but I have this,” Ferguson said, via CBS Sports. “I’m qualified to do this work and I play football. So if both of them help or encourage one another, great. But even without football I can still do my job with excellence, that’s something we learned as athletes.”

Ferguson earned a degree in religious studies while at Virginia. He’ll now go after work in the medical field, possibly as a nurse practitioner or in urgent care.
