The Jets were likely tracking the top offensive linemen in the draft before they all came off the board before getting on the clock at No. 15. New York ultimately selected Iowa State edge defender Will McDonald IV to help add to their pass-rush group. But they were were eyeing another prospect that may or may not raise some eyebrows.
According to Dane Brugler of The Athletic, the Jets also had their eye on Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs at No. 15.
Jahmyr Gibbs going 12th. Surprised he landed in Detroit, but I LOVE the player and what his impact could be in that scheme.
If Gibbs didn't go 12, the Jets had their eye on him at 15. He was going top-20. Special offensive weapon. https://t.co/pdNVbcFnsv

Gibbs wound up not being an option for the Jets after he was selected No. 12 overall by the Detroit Lions. But this is interesting. Breece Hall is of course on his way back, but he may not be 100 percent at the start of the season coming off the torn ACL. The only other backs the Jets currently have now are Michael Carter and Zonovan Knight (the Jets just recently released Ty Johnson).
A 1-2 punch of Hall and Gibbs would have been pretty intriguing to watch. We may never know if he would have actually been the pick had the board fell differently, but it’s still an interesting footnote.
