Jet2 flight sends out distress signal as it flies towards Scottish airport

A Jet2 flight that was scheduled to land in Edinburgh this afternoon sent out an distress signal after a passenger fell ill onboard.

The plane took off from Geneva in Switzerland at roughly 12.20pm and was expected to touch down at Edinburgh Airport at approximately 1.50pm, according to Edinburgh Live.

However, the Jet2 Flight LS780 sent out a code 7700 as it approached Dalkeith in Midlothian at around 1.30pm, indicating a general emergency.

FlightRadar confirmed that the emergency signal was sent out by the aircraft because a passenger required medical attention.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that this was due to a customer requiring medical attention.”
