Jesse Marsch can’t wait to get back to Thorp Arch and run the rule over Leeds United’s latest signing Sonny Perkins. The former West Ham United striker signed a three-year deal with the Whites earlier this week following the expiry of his contract at the east London club.
The 18-year-old made one Premier League appearance under David Moyes, with Perkins featuring in Leeds’ win over the Hammers back in January, and his signature is seen as a real coup for the Whites. Perkins has linked up with United’s under-21 side at Thorp Arch to train and Marsch has already heard good things about the England under-18 international’s progress so far.
However, he is keen to see Perkins on the training ground with his own eyes when he gets back to West Yorkshire next week.

“Yeah, he's got quality he’s an explosive striker,” Marsch said when asked about Leeds’ seventh new recruit. “I think he has flexibility in the positions he can play. He's an intelligent player.
“We're really excited to add him to our club. I think I need to get to know him more and more, he's been at Thorp Arch training with our 21s and we've had really good feedback so far.
“So I'm looking forward to getting back and getting to know him more and getting to work with him more on a daily basis.”
Perkins is expected to start life at Elland Road in the under-21s this season and he’ll look to play a key role in the youth ranks and catch the eye of Marsch on the field of play. Marsch has only been with the club since February, but he has shown no hesitation in giving youngsters a chance when they have been deserving.
The likes of Lewis Bate, Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt all picked up game time under Marsch last season, while promising starlets Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi have both been involved on the club’s pre-season tour of Australia. Perkins will hope to become the latest to be given a chance at senior level and having excelled in the Premier League 2 last season, he’ll be confident of securing that opportunity.
