The shirt worn by Alfie Conn in Rangers ’ European Cup Winners’ Cup triumph over Dynamo Moscow is expected to fetch up to £20,000 at auction.
The royal blue top with long sleeves and the number eight on the back was worn by midfielder Conn during the famous victory at the Camp Nou in Barcelona on May 24, 1972.
Rangers beat Rennes, Sporting Lisbon, Torino and Bayern Munich before overcoming the Soviet side 3-2 to claim their only European trophy.
Conn’s jersey, the first from that match to come to auction, will headline McTear’s sports auction on October 14. It is part of a private collection of match-worn Rangers shirts.
Described by the auctioneers as “one of the most important pieces of Rangers memorabilia to ever go under the hammer,” it is expected to attract bids from football and sporting fans across the globe.
Experts estimate it could fetch between £15,000 and £20,000. James Bruce, McTear’s sporting specialist, said: “A jersey from the Moscow game is a rare thing indeed.”
