Jerry Jones Dodges Question About Mike McCarthy’s Future After Devastating Loss to Packers

Another year, another early exit for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL playoffs.

On Sunday the Cowboys got run out of their own stadium against the Green Bay Packers, falling 48–32 in a game that was even more of a blowout than its final score indicates.

It was a disastrous day from start to finish for the Cowboys, who went down 27–0 in the first half and would not come within two scores of the Packers until there were just three minutes left to play. As Green Bay ran away with the playoff victory, team owner Jerry Jones was seen in his box, reacting with disgust.

The loss brings the job security of coach Mike McCarthy into question. While McCarthy has a year left on his deal with the Cowboys, he now has just a 1–3 postseason record leading Dallas, and has failed to lead the team past the divisional round.

Speaking with a media scrum after Sunday’s game went final, Jones avoiding giving a direct answer with regard to McCarthy’s future with the team, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

“There’s nothing set on that,” Jones said when asked about a potential sit-down with McCarthy, per Machota. “What I had planned to do was be with him tomorrow going over how we played today and getting ready for the coming week. That’s what was on the agenda. Tomorrow, my agenda will be to dismiss the team.”

While Jones didn’t give a direct answer, fans following the game had an easy answer for the Cowboys’ coaching future, calling for newly-available Bill Belichick to answer the call in Dallas during the team’s on-field collapse.
