Jermain Defo and Peter Crouch have delivered their verdict on their former club's manager and what they believe should be Antonio Conte's target.
Tottenham beat Leicester 3-2 in a thrilling comeback victory at the King Power Stadium, keeping the Italian's unbeaten Premier League run with his new side.
The win has taken the Lilywhites to fifth in the league, one point ahead of Arsenal, but with a game in hand over their north London rivals.
Conte has been well received by fans and players and everyone showed their passion when celebrations began after Steven Bergwijn's 97th minute winner on Wednesday.
After the game, Conte was asked how high he believed his side could go this season, in his post-match press conference.
"I think we are in a good position in the table but we know it’ll be very difficult to keep this position and try to fight for something important," the Italian admitted.
"We know very well we have to fight against every team in England. In England the level is very high.
"It was good to have this run of nine games and for this reason now we’re seeing Tottenham in this position in the table. On the one hand it’s good but on the other hand we have to be very honest and understand we’re doing well but it will be very difficult to keep this position.
"We want to continue to work very hard, continue to try to fight and give our best. This must be our target, that at the end of the season we are sure we gave everything and the position we reached in the table means we deserved this position."
Conte knows all too well not to get carried away, even when his side win a game in the way Tottenham did, as there is still a lot of work to do.
Defoe and Crouch, both former Spurs players, have had their say on the new manager.
"I remember speaking to some of the people at Tottenham, I said 'what does he do?' because that's amazing to do that [improve Spurs' fitness]," Defoe said on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning.
"Normally you need a pre-season to get the team really fit but to produce those sort of numbers and winning games with it, he's a special manager and I still feel like there's a lot to come because it's been stop-start and games cancelled."
Tottenham's fitness stats have gone from the worst, under Nuno Espirito Santo, to some of the best in the league in such a short space of time under Conte.
This improved fitness may have helped in Spurs' battle until the very end of the game at the King Power Stadium.
Crouch also praised the manager, after the Lilywhites victory on Wednesday night.
"For him to take over and be unbeaten and that result tonight will be huge for them and keeps that unbeaten run going," Crouch explained. "To win in the manner that they did, they were a minute away from losing that game.
"He is a winner for most of his career, if he can bring that to Tottenham, we don’t want to get too carried away because it’s still early days and there are still areas to improve on defensively but it is something definitely to grab hold of for Tottenham fans now.
"The manner of the league at the moment and the games in hand that they have, fourth spot is up for grabs and after a result like that, fans will start believing."
Defoe agrees with Crouch's prediction that Tottenham have a chance to finish fourth, especially after the result on Wednesday night and the battling nature of the performance.
"When the new manager came in I was like wow, that's a statement because he's a winner and he wants to win now," Defoe explained. "Everywhere he's been he's won trophies.
"I just feel like when you get that sort of consistency and the games come, I think Tottenham have got a great chance of finishing fourth."
Conte will hope he can build on the improvements that are already being seen at Spurs and help them add more points to the table, to help their chances of securing a Champions League spot.
