Jeremy Clarkson collared by Martin Brundle on return to "infuriating" F1 Bahrain GP grid

Jeremy Clarkson couldn't contain his excitement ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix as he spoke to Martin Brundle on the grid.

Brundle embarked on his traditional pre-race grid walks on Sunday, ahead of the first race of the year. He spoke with the likes of Williams driver Alex Albon and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, though there was another famous face on the grid who Brundle wanted to speak to.

After a chinwag with comedian Rory Bremner, the Sky Sports presenter turned for a conversation with Clarkson. The former Top Gear presenter was in a great mood as he revealed that it was the first time he has been to a Formula 1 race in "years".

He said: "First Formula 1 race I've been to for years. It's just so fantastic to be back. I adore Formula 1. It was infuriating for years and years and now it's back because they can follow one another and the aerodynamics are so much better.

"My daughter is now a really big fan so I can talk to her about it. I can't believe how big [the cars] have got! I'm just fizzing with excitement over it all."

Brundle often asks who celebrities will be supporting for the race, and he made sure to offer that question to Clarkson. But he didn't get a straight answer as the Clarkson's Farm star revealed his loyalties were split.

He replied: "It's not like football, you don't have a team. I like Alfa Romeos, always have done. Alpine are my local team in Chipping Norton so I root for them a little bit.

"I'm friends with a bunch of people at Red Bull and I'm here with Salman [the crown prince of Bahrain]. I don't know. But Max [Verstappen] is going to win the race. Who will be second? That's the question."
