The recent Jeju Air crash in South Korea has been marked as the deadliest aviation disaster in the country since 1997. This tragic incident has brought back memories of the Korean Airlines flight crash in Guam, which claimed the lives of 228 individuals.
Despite several incidents occurring since 1997, very few have resulted in reported fatalities. According to the Aviation Safety Network, there have been no other accidents involving fatalities on passenger flights in South Korea since April 2002.
In the April 2002 incident, an Air China Boeing 767-2J6ER crashed into a mountain while attempting to land in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province. The accident report published by the Korea Aviation–Accident Investigation Board revealed that out of the 166 people on board, 129, including two copilots, lost their lives.
