Jeff Bezos' eye-watering net worth and luxury homes as he announces engagement

Jeff Bezos is now engaged to his glamorous girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, after the 59-year-old got down on one knee on board his $500 million superyacht.

Lauren, 53, has been seen flashing her giant rock after sailing on the Koru yacht with the billionaire all weekend.

And the newly engaged couple are sailing off the coast of Cannes while the glamorous film festival takes place.

But glamorous engagement aside, people may be more intrigued by the impressive property portfolio that the business tycoon owns.

Bezos has a 30,000-acre ranch in West Texas, a £121 million Beverly Hills pad, and stunning New York apartment overlooking Central Park.

Here, we take a look at his ridiculous property portfolio.

New York penthouse complex with five floors

In 2020, Bezos splashed out on a swanky £12 million apartment on the 20th floor of 212 Fifth Avenue, in New York.

For that price, you might expect more than its three bedrooms, but he already owns the four storeys above and reportedly plans to turn it into a mega-condo.

Dating back to 1912, the building impressively boasts a fitness centre, yoga studio, games room, and a catering kitchen.

In 2019, the tycoon snapped up the 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th floors - the latter of which is a penthouse suite - for £58 million, and the complex is said to spread over 17,000 square feet.

The spending spree came after Bezos' £26 billion divorce from ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, a split that instantly made the philanthropist the third richest woman in the world.

Back in 2016, he shelled out £17 million for a pad in the exclusive neighbourhood of Kalorama - once home to the Obamas and Ivanka Trump.

The former museum features Georgian-style architecture, wood-panelled rooms with 11 fireplaces and decadent marble flooring.

He also owns the property next door, which is linked by a private driveway, and together they have nearly 27,000 square feet of living space, making it the largest home in Washington DC.

With 10 bedrooms and eight bathrooms, the estate is perfect for hosting the political glitterati - and there's no chance of the neighbours looking in.

According to The Washingtonian, Bezos also bought the house across the street for £4 million, as it was looking into his main mansion.

It's no surprise that Bezos can afford the most expensive property in California.

In February 2020, he forked out an eye-watering £121 million for a mansion that formerly belonged to David Geffen, striking a deal on the billionaire producer's private yacht.

A stone's throw from Sunset Boulevard, the eight-bedroom, 10-bathroom estate boasts a koi pond, waterfalls and a 'rock lagoon' pool - as well as a nine-hole golf course and tennis court.

The house was originally built for Harry Warner, the founder of Warner Bros. Studios, in 1923, and came with chairs in the home theatre that were originally used during studio productions.

He also owns a £20 million Spanish-style mansion with seven bedrooms in LA nearby, which features a six-car garage, alongside a four-bedroom home next door he bought for £10 million in 2017.

Texas ranch filled with rocket ships

It hides a gigantic mansion perfect for a holiday getaway with the kids - but Bezos' sprawling Texas ranch also has a, quite literal, higher purpose.

The huge 300,000-acre estate in Van Horn is the base for Blue Origin, where the tech pioneer has conducted flight tests and developed the New Shepard rocket set to blast him off into space.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Ronald Stasny, the previous owner, said Bezos videotaped the interior of the house itself and wanted to keep all the existing decorations when he bought it back in 2004.

The home was built in the 1920s and features deer-antler chandeliers, oak furniture, a barn and a guest house.

Lake paradise next door to Bill Gates

The secluded enclave of Medina, near Seattle, is a billionaire's playground - famously home to Bill Gates' £93 million estate 'Xanadu 2.0'.

So it's no surprise that Bezos snapped up two properties on the waterfront in 1998 for £7 million - both five-bedroom homes that boast stunning views of Lake Washington.

In 2010, the mogul's firm Aspen Ventures LLC also bought the property next door for £43 million, a 24,000-square-foot Tudor-style home that sits on five acres of land.
