Jean-Philippe Gbamin reveals Everton player he consulted prior to CSKA Moscow move

Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin has admitted he sought the advice of team-mate Salomon Rondon prior to completing his loan move to CSKA Moscow.

The Ivorian will spend the remainder of the season with the Russian top-flight side, who are currently fourth in the division standings.

Gbamin has struggled for first-team minutes since signing from Mainz in August 2019, having only represented the Blues eight times in all competitions.

Injury issues have held back the 26-year-old during his time on Merseyside, who now has the opportunity to earn a consistent run of games as he aims to reach peak performance levels.

Describing his excitement surrounding this short-term switch, he said: “Did the negotiations go quickly? Yes, fast enough.

“My agent contacted the club and we sorted out the formalities in a short time. I am very glad. I want to give the team everything that I am capable of.

"I'm in good shape now, although I haven't played for a long time, but I've been training. I hope that I will show the fans everything that I can do."

Gbamin is not the first Everton player who has spent time on loan at CSKA during their career, with this a route already taken by Rondon this time last year.

The Venezuelan featured 13 times for the Russian outfit in the 2020/21 campaign and was well-placed to offer his insight on what to expect from this experience.

“At Everton, I asked Salomon Rondon about the city, about the people who play and work for CSKA," he told Soccer RU.

“He gave the most positive response about Moscow, the club and the fans who passionately support the team and said that I would like everything a lot."
