JD Vance Delays Commitment To October 1 Debate

Senate candidate JD Vance campaigns in Boardman

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance has expressed his intention to debate his Democratic opponent Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, but has not yet committed to a specific date. Vance stated that he wants to review the debate's rules and setup before confirming his participation.

CBS News extended an invitation to both candidates, offering two dates in September and two dates in October. Walz promptly responded on social media, confirming his availability for October 1.

Vance, on the other hand, mentioned that his team received the notice from CBS only hours before his statement on Fox News. He emphasized the importance of discussing the debate details with the organizers before finalizing a date.

While Vance assured that he will debate Walz, he expressed interest in having multiple debates rather than just one. He suggested the possibility of facing off against Walz earlier than the proposed October 1 date.

Furthermore, Vance raised concerns about holding a debate without an audience, referencing the previous debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, which took place without live spectators.

Despite his reservations, Vance indicated that he is likely to participate in the October 1 debate but hinted at the potential for additional debates both before and after the scheduled event.
