JD Vance And Tim Walz To Debate On CBS

Senate candidate JD Vance campaigns in Boardman

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance and his Democratic counterpart, Tim Walz, are scheduled to engage in a debate hosted by CBS on October 1. Vance confirmed his participation after accepting the invitation on Thursday, with Walz following suit the next day.

Vance has also agreed to an additional vice presidential debate, announcing his acceptance of CNN's invitation to debate on September 18. In a social media post, Vance emphasized the importance of providing the American people with multiple opportunities to hear from the candidates, citing President Trump's challenge to Kamala Harris for three debates.

Walz acknowledged the CBS invitation through a social media post, expressing readiness for the October 1 debate.

CBS News presented the candidates with two dates in September and two in October for the debate, to be held in New York City.

Vance accepted CBS and CNN debate invitations, emphasizing voter engagement.

Earlier in the year, before President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, Harris had accepted an invitation from CBS to debate Trump's future running mate on either July 23 or August 13. Trump, on his Truth Social platform, announced his campaign's acceptance of an invitation for his running mate to participate in a Fox News debate.

Trump recently named Vance as his running mate, while Harris assumed the Democratic presidential candidacy after Biden's exit, selecting Walz as her running mate last week.

Harris and Trump have agreed to a presidential debate on ABC News scheduled for September 10, marking the second presidential debate of the year following Trump's previous debate with Biden on CNN in late June. Biden's performance in that debate raised concerns among Democrats, ultimately leading to his withdrawal from the race.
