The Celtics were eliminated from the NBA’s inaugural in-season tournament after a 122–112 loss to the Pacers on Monday, and the basketball world was quick with the takes. Social media, in particular, collapsed on Boston, currently the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
After Boston’s loss, ESPN posted a graphic highlighting that Celtics star Jaylen Brown has shot the ball 43 times in his past two games without logging a single assist, using the caption, “Jaylen Brown been gettin’ ’em up the last two games.”
Brown called out ESPN in the comment section.
“Ya’ll corny watch the game,” he wrote Tuesday.
It’s unclear what Brown was specifically upset about—whether it was ESPN’s attempt at being casual in the caption or if he thought the graphic was misleading.
Brown shot 8 for 20 in his team’s win against the 76ers on Friday and 14 for 23 in the loss against the Pacers. In 19 games this season, he’s averaging 22.2 points and 3.2 assists per contest.
