Jasprit Bumrah Faces Rare Lean Patch in IPL, Mumbai Indians Stand Firm Behind Star Pacer

Known for his precision, yorkers, and ability to apply relentless pressure, Bumrah has looked uncharacteristically off rhythm this season. His economy rate of 8.80, while not alarming in isolation, still falls short of his typically elite standards. More concerning has been the lack of penetration, with opposition batters appearing increasingly willing to take him on—something rarely seen in peak Bumrah form.

The low point of his campaign came against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he went wicketless and conceded 54 runs in his four overs—the most expensive spell of the match. The performance once again sparked discussion around his current form and workload.

However, Mumbai Indians have strongly backed their premier fast bowler. Former West Indies captain and MI batting coach Kieron Pollard urged perspective, reminding critics of Bumrah’s long-standing consistency and match-winning record across formats.

Pollard emphasized that even the best players go through phases of struggle and deserve patience. He noted that Bumrah has been a “number one bowler” for both Mumbai Indians and India for years and is entitled to occasional off periods, whether in a single match, a few months, or even a season.

He also highlighted the disproportionate scrutiny professional cricketers face compared to people in other professions, where mistakes can often be corrected quietly. According to Pollard, the visibility of the sport magnifies every failure, making it important to maintain balance in judgment.

Despite the recent struggles, Pollard remained confident about Bumrah’s future performances, stating that the bowler is expected to “bounce back with greater heights” and return to his wicket-taking best soon.

For Mumbai Indians, the message remains clear: one of their greatest match-winners is in a temporary slump—but the faith in his ability to deliver on the biggest stages remains unchanged.
