Jason Mastrodonato: Chris Sale injury a lame excuse for Red Sox to become trade deadline sellers

Red Sox Chris Sale Sox Co Xander Bogaerts JD Martinez Rafael Devers Christian Vazquez Kike Hernandez Michael Wacha

Sorry, but this can’t be how Xander Bogaerts’ career with the Red Sox comes to an end.

It doesn’t matter that Chris Sale walked off the Yankee Stadium mound holding his freshly-broken pinky high in the air for all to see. Whether or not he pitches again this year is to be determined.

The Red Sox have been in playoff contention without winning a single game that Sale has pitched, and they can be in playoff contention again while Sale rehabs his fourth significant injury in the last four years.
