Jason Cummings in Australia World Cup wait as former Hibs star hopes he hasn't blown Qatar chance with misses

Jason Cummings insists he's given everything to land his World Cup dream, with Australia set to announce their final squad on Tuesday.

The former Hibs, Rangers and Dundee striker was called up for the Socceroos in September, despite previously having won two caps for Scotland, and netted on his Oz debut against New Zealand with a penalty. He's hoping to be included in the pool of 26 for Qatar alongside ex-Easter Road teammate Martin Boyle.

Australia boss Graham Arnold will unveil his squad for Qatar on Tuesday and Cummings is hoping missing chances for his club, Central Coast Mariners, in their weekend game against Western Sydney Wanderers doesn't come back to haunt him. He said: "My worst critic is myself. I hammer myself when I don’t score. I had a couple of chances, the missed one-on-one was poor from me, I should have put it in the back of the net. I was a wee bit unlucky at the end when I hit the post.

"That one summed it up for me personally – I just felt like I left the shooting boots at home. But I’ve done everything that I could. I can look in the mirror and say, ‘If I’m not in the squad, I’ve tried my best’. Hopefully, fingers crossed, I’m in there because I feel like I can bring a lot to the team, I can bring goals. I’d just be buzzing about if I was in that squad, it’d be a dream come true. My confidence right now is through the roof. I’m properly enjoying it – on the pitch, off the pitch, living in Australia, living the dream. Everything right now is amazing. I feel like I’ve done well."
