Jarrad Branthwaite has revealed the role former Everton director of football Marcel Brands played in luring him to PSV Eindhoven.
Brands, now back at the Dutch club where he previously worked between 2010 and 2018, oversaw the defender’s January 2020 move to Goodison Park after just nine League Two matches for his home city side Carlisle United. And he has also been crucial in overseeing the 20-year-old’s season-long loan switch to the Eredivisie.
Branthwaite told PSV’s website : “I am happy to be here. PSV is a very big club, which already feels like a family. The people make me feel welcome and the facilities are top notch. I can't wait to get started here.

“I am tall and I am quick and composed on the ball as well. I also like to think of myself as a leader.
“Marcel spoke to me about the club and its history. Now that I am here, everything is falling into place. I think this is the perfect move for me.
“PSV made it clear they wanted me here. It’s a great opportunity for me to play in a top league and in Europe. It is exciting to show my skills and help the team.”
Centre-back Branthwaite has made 13 appearances for Everton so far, scoring his first Premier League goal to equalise for a depleted side in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last December. But he got sent off in his last Goodison outing, a 3-2 defeat to Brentford in May. This will be his second loan spell out after spending the second half of the 2020/21 season at Blackburn Rovers, playing 10 times in the Championship.
