Jamie Redknapp issues Tottenham stern relegation warning after bruising Arsenal derby defeat

Debut disaster: Igor Tudor - (John Walton/PA Wire)

Jamie Redknapp has warned that Tottenham must improve or risk playing in another division to Arsenal next season after the Gunners romped to a 4-1 victory in the north London derby.

Spurs were comprehensively beaten in Igor Tudor’s first game in charge, leaving them four points above the relegation zone and still searching for their first league win of 2026.

Spurs remain 16th in the Premier League table, and Redknapp has insisted that if they continue to perform as they did against Arsenal, then they could be playing Championship football next term.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp iterated that Arsenal were “in a different league” to Spurs as the Gunners extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

“Even when they equalised, you just felt there was a control about this Arsenal side,” he said.

“I thought it was a complete mismatch. They were different leagues.

“Arsenal were so in control, so classy. They had a threat on the counter-attack, on the break, when they were having to maybe suffer a little bit. But they were so much better than Tottenham.

“It was like two different leagues. If Tottenham aren't careful, they might be in a different league next season. They can't carry on performing like this.”

Spurs went in at the break level thanks to Randal Kolo Muani, who hit back 24 seconds after Eberechi Eze had given the visitors the lead and looked to be frustrating Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal hit their stride in the second half, though, making their dominance count as Viktor Gyokeres struck twice, either side of Eze’s fifth goal in two appearances against Spurs.

“They [Spurs] have not had a [league] win in 2026. But Arsenal, the way they played, the way that they defended at times, and then Gyokeres led that line, Eze was wonderful,” Redknapp continued.

“It was a brilliant, brilliant performance from them.

“I think you've also got to remember that save. David Raya makes a save at 3-1. If that had gone in, then who knows? Because of the ghost of what happened in midweek against Wolves, it might have just put a little bit of pressure on them.

“But that's what you need your ‘keeper to step up. [He] made a mistake earlier in the week, [but showed] great character today. Arsenal are fantastic; just too good for Tottenham.”
