Jamie McGrath completes Wigan transfer as St Mirren midfielder makes six-figure deadline day move

Jamie McGrath has sealed his St Mirren exit with a six-figure deadline day move to Wigan.

The Ireland international saw a last gasp switch to Hibs fall through in the last window but there was no hiccup this time as the Latics swooped ahead of Birmingham City to land the midfielder.

McGrath penned a two-and-a-half deal at the DW Stadium. It's understood St Mirren have banked £150,000.

And Jim Goodwin has moved quickly to replace McGrath in his midfield by landing Alex Gogic on loan from Hibs.

The Cyprus international is in the final months of his Easter Road contract and will spend the remainder of the campaign in Paisley in a move which could lead to a longer term deal in the summer.

Earlier in the day Goodwin secured Jordan Jones on loan until the end of the season from Wigan before McGrath made the move in the opposite direction.

The exit of 25-year-old comes just weeks after talks with Aberdeen over a pre-contract deal broke down.

The playmaker has flourished in Paisley since being plucked from Dundalk by Goodwin two years ago.

A total of 78 appearances for St Mirren brought 20 goals - and international recognition as McGrath broke into Stephen Kenny’s Ireland squad last summer and has gone on to win six caps.

The Paisley club said: "Everyone at St Mirren would like to thank Jamie for his service to the club and wish him all the very best for his future."
