Jamie Carragher has offered an eye-raising response after being told to 'wash his mouth' by Everton star Richarlison.
The Liverpool legend was the subject of a scathing attack on Twitter in the aftermath of the Toffees' superb comeback victory over Crystal Palace on Thursday, winning 3-2 at a rocking Goodison Park to secure Premier League safety.
Following long-running criticism from Carragher regarding his on-pitch theatrics which infuriate opponents, the Brazilian tweeted in the early hours of Friday morning: "Wash your mouth before you talk about me and Everton and I don't respect you." Richarlison was met with a response shortly after 9am, as the ex-Liverpool defender - who started out at Goodison during his youth - praised him for biting back.
"I actually quite like this," Carragher admitted in his own tweet. "If Twitter was about when I was a player I'm sure I would've called pundits out quite a lot!" Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has even chimed in the on the war of words, quoting Richarlison's tweet about his Sky Sports colleague and saying: "Know how you feel mate."
Carragher recently made headlines by criticising Richarlison for his behaviour during the Merseyside derby at Anfield, which Everton lost 2-0. After the 25-year-old went down easily on a number of occasions, co-commentator Carragher blasted: "Honestly get up.

"Every week I watch him play like that. Get up. Carry on. [Abdoulaye] Doucoure gets a yellow card now because Richarlison goes down and there's nothing wrong with him."
Back in November 2020, Carragher had his first dig at the Everton forward by tweeting: "Every EFC game I do he goes down 3/4 times like he's got a big injury then just gets up! It's not about getting a penalty or a foul but pretending he's hurt when he's not." However, the pundit could resume his criticism next season with the striker at a different club.
Goal report that Richarlison is seeking a fresh challenge away from Merseyside and dreams of lifting trophies, but would prefer to stay in the Premier League. Real Madrid have been linked with his signature, a move which would see him reunite with Carlo Ancelotti, as have Manchester United.
Since joining from Watford in a deal worth up to £50million in 2018, Richarlison has bagged 53 goals. 10 this term have helped the Toffees beat the drop with one game to spare but his representatives are said to already be in talks with multiple clubs as they attempt to engineer a summer transfer, meaning Everton's final-day trip to Arsenal on Sunday could be his last outing for the club.
