Jamie Carragher proven right about Leeds United next move amid Jesse Marsch link

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher appears to have foreshadowed Leeds United's appointment of Marcelo Bielsa's successor.

The Whites have parted company with their head coach after over three-and-a-half years of having him at the helm and according to reports, former RB Leipzig boss Jesse Marsch is close to being appointed as the replacement.

Marsch had been linked with a move to Elland Road prior to Bielsa's departure and before the Argentine's exit was confirmed, he pressed about rumours on CBS Sports by pundit Carragher.

Addressing Marsch, Carragher asked: "It's been a pleasure speaking to you, am I going to get this pleasure a lot more this season because you're coming to Leeds aren't you?"

After being told by Marsch he had been reading newspapers and Twitter too much, Carragher asked for an exclusive but the American insisted he was enjoying being unemployed.

However, it's widely expected Leeds are close to appointing Marsch as Bielsa's successor.

The 48-year-old started the current campaign in charge of RB Leipzig but left in December after just 20 games at the helm. He had previously been in charge of Red Bull Salzburg, who he led to two Austrian top flight titles and two Austrian Cup victories.

Marsch began his coaching career at international level, working as Bob Bradley's assistant for the USA national team before taking the reins at Montreal Impact. He then took over at New York Red Bulls before moving to Germany to become Ralf Rangnick's assistant at RB Leipzig.

After a season as as Rangnick's right-hand man, he became number one at Red Bull Salzburg before eventually returning to Germany as RB Leipzig's head coach.

Leeds are in the process of appointing a head coach for the first time since 2018 after nearly four seasons of having Bielsa in the dugout.

He led the Whites to promotion to the Premier League at the second time of asking in 2020, before guiding them to a 9th-placed finish in their first season back in the top flight.

However, he has failed to steer Leeds clear of a relegation battle this season and departs with the club hovering dangerously above the drop zone.
