Micah Richards was left with tears streaming down his face after watching Jamie Carragher’s hilarious attempts at interviewing AC Milan star Rafael Leao.
The pair were working together on Tuesday evening and watched the Italian champions secure a 1-1 draw with Serie A rivals Napoli to secure their spot in the Champions League semi-finals. Portuguese forward Leao was interviewed by American station CBS after the full-time whistle, with ex-Liverpool defender Carragher keen to get his thoughts on who he wants to face in the last four.
He said: “Rafael, when you see the games tomorrow, obviously the big rival of yours Inter Milan are in the other semi-final. Would you like that? A big semi-final with your biggest rivals?”
Unfortunately, it appeared that the 23-year-old was having trouble understanding what Carragher was asking and asked him to repeat the question. That triggered the former Liverpool star to point at his colleagues and exclaimed: “They have the same problem.”
Host Kate Abdo then intervened as she offered her amusing take. She said: “He’s a scouser, don’t worry, it’s difficult.”
Carragher attempted to clarify his question as he slowed down his speech before asking: “Inter Milan are playing tomorrow, Internazionale, would you like to play them in the semi-final?”

Despite that, Leao still appeared to have trouble understanding and it took further clarification from somebody behind the scenes for him to finally answer the question. The Portuguese forward replied: “Will be good always to play against them. For us, against Inter, will be a great game.
“I think the passion will be put on the game will be the same as today or more because playing against them. The atmosphere will be crazy in Milan so we have to give 100 per cent.”
The exchange was not quite finished there though as both Abdo and Richards broke into laughter, the latter rounding off the interview with another jokey jibe at Carragher’s expense.
“You’re not alone by the way,” she said. “This show goes out to America so you now know how all of America feels when Jamie Carragher talks, they have similar problems understanding his accent so thank you for your patience, we appreciate you.”
Despite managing to keep his composure during the interview, Richards then broke into his trademark laughter as tears rolled down his face, whilst he also attempted to reason with his embarrassed colleague.
“Jamie, seriously [laughs],” the former Man City man roared. “Your broken English and you go Internazionale. What? If he didn’t understand Inter, how was he going to know Internazionale? Using his broken English accent as well!”
To make matters worse for Carragher, Richards had already impressed Leao with his own language skills. Ahead of the interview, he had welcomed the Portuguese with the Italian phrase “Ciao a tutti” which means “hello everybody” in Italian - with the striker praising Richards for his Italian accent.
