Jamie Carragher explains why Man City star Kevin De Bruyne has not reached Steven Gerrard's level

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has failed to have the memorable moment to define his career like Steven Gerrard accomplished.

De Bruyne was the Blues' hero on Tuesday night in the Spanish capital when his brilliant strike levelled the tie following Vinicius Jr's first-half opener. The Belgian's strike could be all-important as City host Real Madrid at the Etihad next Wednesday.

However, despite having won the Premier League on four occasions to Gerrard's zero, Carragher believes De Bruyne still needs a moment to be deemed better than his old teammate. Speaking on CBS Sport, the 45-year-old said: "If he [De Bruyne] could be the man who takes them to the Champions League, the treble, it elevates him.

"We’re not questioning his ability, but in terms of where we rank players, we always judge players in the biggest moments in the biggest tournaments. Stevie’s got that Istanbul moment, that’s what I’m talking about

"It’s one game but it’s that moment that you can’t ever take out of your mind when you think of Steven Gerrard. We still haven’t got that one moment for Kevin De Bruyne at the absolute highest level.

"This season could be the season." Of course, as well as the Champions League, City continue to battle on three fronts this season.

On June 3, the Blues will meet arch rivals Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup final. Meanwhile, in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola's team sit one point clear of Arsenal with a game in hand on the Gunners.
