James Tavernier to stay at Rangers as 'transfer exit non-starter'

James Tavernier will not leave Rangers amid Super Lig interest, according to a report.

It's claimed the Ibrox captain would have snubbed any approach from Turkiye for his services in the summer.

Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas had all been credited with an interest in Tavernier.

However, the Daily Record states Tavernier will not leave Rangers and is keen to perform under Philippe Clement.

Besiktas - managed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst - had been keen to land Tavernier as they pushed to change Super Lig rules to allow more than 12 foreign players in squads.

However, the move was denied meaning the club would not be able to register Tavernier had they forced through a move.

It has now been claimed, though, that even if a deal had been struck with Rangers then Tavernier would not have been interested in a lucrative switch.

It's reported the defender does not want to leave the club in an "hour of need" and will remain to take his time at the club into ten years where he will be due a testimonial for his service.
