James Tavernier could leave Rangers as representatives 'hold talks'

The transfer window may be closed in the UK, but James Tavernier could yet still leave Rangers, according to reports.

talkSPORT claims that representatives of the Gers skipper have held talks with clubs in Qatar and Turkey over potential moves.

The report says this is off the back of the 32-year-old stalwart being subjected to fan abuse following last weekend's hefty Old Firm defeat to Celtic.

The right-back - like many of his teammates - was subjected to several shouts from disgruntled supporters outside of Ibrox last Saturday following the Scottish Premiership loss in Glasgow's east end.

In a video widely shared online, Tavernier looked visibly angry at the abuse directed towards him and his fellow teammates, as he appeared to shout back back security intervened in an attempt to defuse the situation. 

Philippe Clement was also confronted by supporters in the aftermath of the derby defeat. 

The Belgian fronted up and was filmed as he tried to reason with the fans.

"We know we are at the start of something," Clement said. "16 players left the club. We have a lot of new guys, a lot of young guys.

"Look also at the age difference between the starting XI of Celtic and ours. So we know we have a lot of things to work on but we also see the potential that is there.

"Celtic played today also with a team that's been together for more than one year together. Some guys for two, three, four years. It's normal they have more automaticity.

"Also when they bring the new ones in that they paid a lot of money for, it's not the same, even now. So we know we have a way to go but we're going to work hard on that."
