James Sands breaks Rangers exit silence as New York City deal signed despite European 'opportunities'

James Sands has returned to New York City from Rangers early as he spoke for the first time since his loan was cut short.

The Light Blues confirmed this afternoon that his 18-month agreement had been terminated early to allow the versatile star to return to his parent club ahead of the new MLS season. During his time in Glasgow under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale the USA international made 41 appearances including matches in the Europa League and Champions League. He featured in the heartbreaking defeat in Seville to Frankfurt while he also helped the Ibrox men lift the Scottish Cup.

Club Sporting Director David Lee has confirmed that the midfielder has rejected other opportunities in Europe after penning a new deal until 2027 in the Big Apple. Sands could feature against Chicago Fire if his international clearance is received on time. His parent club have described getting him back on the books as a priority as Beale and Rangers start planning for next season.
