Newcastle United target James Maddison is holding out for a move to Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur, according to recent reports.
The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for Maddison last summer and football.london reported at the time that technical director Edu was indeed keen to bring the England international to the Emirates Stadium. However, a move failed to materialise and the north Londoners eventually signed Norwegian playmaker Martin Odegaard instead.
This summer, Maddison has been linked with Arsenal's local rivals Spurs, who hold a long-standing interest in the talented midfielder, football.london understands. Still, newly-rich Newcastle appear to be the club actively pursuing the former Leicester City star the most, with Sky Sports reporting that the Magpies lodged a £50 million bid on Tuesday afternoon, with the Foxes said to be holding out for £60 million.

Now, transfer guru Dean Jones has given an update on Maddison's personal preferences, claiming that the 25-year-old would prefer to join one of the two Premier League clubs in north London instead of Eddie Howe's side. "James Maddison has had an approach from Newcastle," Jones told The Done Deal Show.
"The offer Newcastle have put to Leicester isn’t enough and they have to decide whether or not to bid again They’ve not been encouraged to bid again and I don’t get any signs that Maddison actually wants to join Newcastle; from what I hear Maddison wants to join Tottenham or Arsenal.
"If he’s going to leave Leicester one of those two need to make an offer. That’s the latest I’ve heard."
