When Lions rookie EDGE James Houston brought down Jets QB Zach Wilson in the first quarter of Sunday’s 20-17 Detroit win, the speedy pass rusher made his mark in the record books.
Houston joined some pretty impressive company in registering a sack in each of his first four games. Only two other players have done that since sacks became an official stat in 1982: Terrell Suggs and Santana Dotson. Suggs won the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2003 with 12 sacks, while Dotson finished second in 1992 with 10 sacks.
No. 59 became the first Lion rookie to ever record a sack in four straight games. It ties the longest sack streak in team history, too. With five sacks in his first four games, Houston also set the franchise mark for most sacks in the first four games.
Not bad for a sixth-round draft pick who was stuck on the team’s practice squad through the first 10 weeks!
