James Haskell confesses to 'throwing out' Richard Madeley for 'stress-free' Christmas Day

James Haskell has confessed to 'throwing out' Richard Madeley for a 'stress-free' Christmas Day. The ex-rugby star revealed on This Morning that he had a great Christmas after banning his father-in-law from cooking.

The 37-year-old appeared on the ITV show yesterday and spoke to hosts Andi Peters and Josie Gibson about Christmas and how it went with his in-laws. James is married to Richard's daughter, Chloe, and spent the festive period with the TV presenter, reports the Mirror.

However, he confessed it was not all plain sailing, with Richard often getting worked up when it comes to food prep. James said: “He can get quite fiery in the kitchen.”

The rugby champ then went on to recall the first time he met the longtime TV personality on Boxing Day and the warning his wife gave him. James added: “I was told he can be a little bit tricky in the kitchen, don’t go in there.

"Of course that was a red rag to a bull. Son-in-law wanting to make a good impression, so I went in there and gave him a bit of chat.

"He used one of those f-words. So, this year he was thrown out of the kitchen because we wanted to be stress-free.

“Chloe’s brother Dan cooked an absolute storm and smashed it. Very relaxing.

"We were looked after like royalty.” Following his Christmas stories, James then went on to gush about becoming a dad for the first time.

His wife Chloe gave birth to daughter Bodhi Rae Georgia Haskell via C-section last year. James said becoming a father has been ‘amazing’.

He said: “People talk about love and you have lots of very different relationships in your life and you love in very different ways. But there’s something so primal about the love you have for this baby.

“As soon as I saw her on the first scan, I cried like a baby. As soon as she came out, I cried like a baby.

“She can get away with murder. All she has to do is smile at me and I'm the happiest man in the world.”
