Ally McCoist reckons James Forrest deserves a sensational Scotland recall - but isn't so sure his Celtic teammate Anthony Ralston will feature.
The Scotland boss is set to name his 28-man squad on Wednesday ahead of Euro 2024, which begins in Munich next month.
Ralston has played second fiddle to Alistair Johnston at club level yet long-term injuries to Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson may have kept the international door open.
Kieran Tierney has switched over to right-back before and McCoist thinks that's exactly what Clarke will probably do, rather than play someone who's featured just 18 times for his club this season.
"Right back position, obviously, you know, we miss Patterson," the former Scotland striker told talkSPORT.
"What he might do is he can play Tierney over that side.
“He’s done that before. He could bring in Ralston although he’s not really played enough this season.”
Forrest's remarkable end to the campaign, which saw him go from out of favour to a title hero has provided him with a high chance of making Clarke's squad.
And even though McCoist dismissed the notion that Forrest could fill in at full-back, he does expect the Celtic winger to have impressed enough to make the plane to Germany next month.
“I’m not playing him at right back," he stated. "Absolutely no chance of playing at right-back.
“But I think he probably will [go to the Euros]. His end-of-season form has been excellent and I think he’s probably done enough to get in the squad.”
