James Blunt has revealed what happened when he came face-to-face with Noel Gallagher after the Oasis star claimed he was “leaving Ibiza and selling up his house” because he lived near him.
The 50-year-old singer-songwriter has been splitting his time between the UK and the party island since 2006 after he purchased a £1.7million home there.
He even has a night club at the bottom of his garden called Blunty’s which boasts a neon sign declaring “where everyone is beautiful”, a nod to his chart-topping song You’re Beautiful.
By all accounts, he sounds like the perfect neighbour, so what was Gallagher’s problem?
Appearing on the latest episode of the How to Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast, Blunt explained: “I bumped into Noel Gallagher the other day. He'd said he was leaving Ibiza and selling up his house because he couldn't handle me writing my s*** songs down the road from him.
“House prices subsequently went up after he’s left,” he joked.
Blunt said he is slightly confused by Gallagher taking this stance as when the two have met, they’ve never had any issues, but said people in the entertainment industry can be a bit like that.
He elaborated: “Whenever I see him, he's really sweet to my face. I think everyone's sweet to each other's faces. It's just with the courage of a microphone and a journalist and trying to show off a little, they'll do something different.”
It comes after Blunt recently heaved a sigh of relief after not having to legally change his name by deed poll to “Blunt McBluntface”.
The record is the biggest selling album of all time by a British male solo artist and spent 10 weeks at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart back in 2004.
After sharing a video of a spoof nightmare of what his wife’s reaction would be if she would have to be known as Mrs McBluntface, it fortunately wasn’t to be.
You’re Beautiful entered the UK Official Charts last week at Number 7 after being beaten by CHARLI XCX’s Brat to the top spot.
