Jamal Lewis' cryptic post as Newcastle fans await Premier League squad announcement

Newcastle United supporters have responded to a cryptic social media post from Jamal Lewis with an announcement due on the club's 25-man squad.

Eddie Howe managed to secure five signings in the January transfer window, with the deadline-day arrivals of Dan Burn and Matt Targett joining Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

Jeff Hendrick and Freddie Woodman left on loan to QPR and Bournemouth respectively, but it still means the head coach must exclude three players from his Premier League squad.

The announcement on those to be cut from the 25-man pool is expected by the end of the week, and Lewis is among those considered to be risk.

Reports have claimed the Northern Ireland international along with Ciaran Clark have been informed they will not feature in Howe's plans for the rest of the season.

The Newcastle boss' decision has not yet been confirmed, but the response from fans to Lewis' latest Instagram post indicate many feel the 24-year-old was reacting to his potential omission.

One fan posted: "Should be in that squad by far, one of the best defenders."

Another supporter replied: "The fans have got your back Jamal."

A third fan commented: "Stay strong. Show them what you are capable of.

"Always believe in yourself. You'll get you chance/your place."
