The wide receiver market got a jolt on Monday when the legal tampering period of free agency opened. Christian Kirk of the Cardinals agreed to a four-year contract with the Jaguars, and it’s an expensive one.
According to reports, it has a base value of $72 million and can be worth up to $84 million. That means he could get paid up to $21 million per year, which would put him third in the NFL among all receivers.
That’s hard to fathom for a player with zero 1,000-yard seasons and only 17 touchdowns in four seasons. He’s a good player, but he’s not in the realm of the top guys at his position talent-wise.
Jalen Ramsey caught wind of Kirk’s contract – as well as others at wide receiver, presumably – and shared his thoughts after Darius Slay did the same. He wants to know how he’s locking down receivers who get paid more than him, like Kirk.
Either that or our prices just went up❕ how we locking down guys who get paid more than us 😂… it’s all blessings tho 🙏🏾 https://t.co/rBWHnXeHtP
