When the Cleveland Browns and veteran return man Jakeem Grants Sr. agreed to a restructured contract his chances of getting cut were high. An aging player coming off of an Achilles tear it seemed like with the additions of more talent at wide receiver Grant Sr. would find his way off the team.
Fast forward a couple of months with an injury to Jaelon Darden and the medical condition of Marquise Goodwin there is a major need in the group. More speed, they need more players that have elite speed to help stretch the field vertically for the rest of the offense.
The team clearly was expecting Marquise Goodwin to be the guy to fill this role as he excels at it but a couple weeks from the season we have no idea if he will play this year. With Jaelon Darden out with an injury, Jakeem Grant seems to be getting healthier by the day.
And he has yet to dress in the preseason, resting with the starters.
On an earlier episode of the Orange and Brown Talk Podcast, Cleveland dot com’s Dan Labbe talked about how Grant has looked and the reps he is receiving in camp. He spoke about how Grant is now getting the vast majority of both punt and kick return reps in camp.
It seems the more that camp goes on with Grant getting healthier and taking more reps that if Goodwin doesn’t return he will take that final roster spot.
