In a twist that’s got the internet straight up bamboozled, Jake Paul has come out on top in his fight against Mike Tyson.
Jake Paul took out the win unanimously after the eight two-minute rounds. The judges scored the fight 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in favour of Paul, who landed a staggering 78 punches compared to Tyson’s mere 18.
Fight night for the 58-year-old Tyson and 27-year-old Paul came after a lot of uncertainty. Originally set for July, the fight was postponed when Tyson had a health scare — a flare-up of an ulcer that made him feel sick during a flight. Fans were left wondering if the match would even happen, but thankfully Tyson recovered, and the fight went ahead on November 15 (GMT-6).
Before heading to the fight which took place in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the two boys were already slinging hits at each other outside of the ring.
Things got heated at the weigh-in when Tyson slapped Paul in a moment that gave major Real Housewives vibes. Tyson later explained, “I was in my socks and he had on shoes. He stepped on my toe because he is a fucking asshole. I wanted to think it happened by accident. But now I think it may have happened on purpose,” per ABC.
Paul didn’t shy away from the altercation and said, “I didn’t even feel it — he’s angry. He’s an angry little elf … cute slap buddy.”
People have already taken to the internet to share how shocked they were about the results. One X user quipped, “Nah this gotta be rigged.”
Others are celebrating Paul’s victory. “Yes Jake dominated as usual!!” said one user on X.
“Jake Paul may have won, but Mike Tyson went the distance with a fighter 31 years younger and faster. In my eyes it’s only further proven he’s a living legend,” one user pointed out on X.
This whole shindig was Netflix’s debut as a boxing platform, and good Lord did they pick a doozy to start with. It’s their biggest live sports event to date, setting the stage for future NFL and WWE content. Let’s hope their servers hold up better than Tyson’s defence.
