JAIPUR: The Muhana police on Sunday arrested a foreign national for allegedly duping several people by promising to sell imported items at discounted prices.
SHO (Muhana) Lakhan Singh Khatna said that the accused has been identified as Ben Diyara (33), a national of Ivory Coast. He said that the accused had come to India in 2017 on a tourist visa, but since 2021, he had been staying on a business visa.
Police said the accused used to contact through social media accounts by posing as a woman. He would claim to be settled aboard with a good business. He would contact people through forged sim cards and offer to sell important electronic items at discounted prices. “The accused would bilk money in multiple tranches on the pretext of custom duty, bills etc,” he said.
Police said that the accused would quickly funnel money through different channels and bank accounts so that people could not trail them.
