JAIPUR: The high court administration notice asking judges to attend the International Day of Yoga including the address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21 has raised a few eyebrows.
The high court administration said it is for the first time that it will also observe the day. Despite the ongoing summer vacation at the high court, the registrar (administration) Jodhpur has issued a notice asking all former and sitting judges and lawyers to attend the function including the speech by Modi at 6.40 am.
Initially, the court had invited sitting and former judges, advocates and staff to participate in a yoga session from 7am to 7:45am to mark the day. A second notice was later issued for attending a telecast of the PM’s speech.
In continuation to this office notice on June 15, 2022, it is informed that Hon'ble prime minister of India shall also address from 6.40am to 7am from Mysuru on the occasion of International Day of Yoga, 2022, scheduledd to be held on June 21, said the notice issued by the registrar administration.
It added, “therefore, all the present and former Hon'ble Judges sitting/residing at Jodhpur, officers of the registry, advocates, and all other officers/officials of Rajasthan high court, Jodhpur are requested to assemble in the right side Garden of Ceremonial Gate of Rajasthan High Court, Jodhpur, at 6.30am on Tuesday.” Sources said the notice was issued under the direction of the ministry of law and justice. Similar directions were issued to the bar councils and associations. However many lawyers expressed surprise over such a notice to the sitting judges
