JAIPUR: Waterlogged roads and overflowing sewerage lines are a sign of bad drainage system. JMC – Greater and Heritage — had floated tenders to clean the drains in May-end. Work started in June, which is not sufficient for Pink City.
Zone-wise tenders were invited for JMC-Greater and Heritage areas, but the work started in selected places this month. This wasn’t helpful as the pre-monsoon showers left the entire city waterlogged.
Ward 70 councillor Ramavtar Guha said the main roads of his ward were submerged completely. “There is a school on that road and we had to put huge stones to let students cross it. JMC-Greater didn’t float tenders at the right time that resulted into this,” said Guha.
In Durgapura area, ward no. 87 councillor Vikas Meena said contractors cleaned half of the sewer lines and left the other half untouched. In his ward, sewers started overflowing after just two days of showers.
JMC-Greater commissioner Mahendra Soni said they are resolving problems of the corporation and will send resources in the wards where there is a demand to pump out water.
After cleaning the drains, contractors leave the dirt on the road that fall back into the drains as soon as it rains.
Moreover, around 1.48 lakh sewerage manholes are broken, which were supposed to be repaired by the corporation before monsoon. There is always a fear of accidents due to these manholes. The corporation has a budget of Rs 8.55 crore for the purpose, but that work will also be completed after monsoon. tnn
