Jaipur: After 2 years, JMC-Greater to float tenders for catching cattle

JAIPUR: After almost two years, JMC-Greater has decided to invite tenders for catching stray cattle in the city. Currently, the corporation catches cattle using its own resources.

There are more than 6,000 stray cattle in the city and their numbers are rising. JMC-Greater had been catching stray cattle using its own resources but due to bad equipment, they couldn’t do the job efficiently.

JMC-Greater animal husbandry in-charge Harendra Singh said, “We have written to DLB to purchase more cages. As an alternative, we are giving this work on contract. Our target will be to at least catch 80 cattle daily.”

Officials in the corporation say out of the two vehicles to catch stray animals, one is functioning. The condition of the vehicle is so bad that recently, the garage department of the corporation decided to auction it before being stopped by the animal husbandry department as this is the only option for them to catch animals. Officials have written to the higher authorities to purchase more vehicles.

Meanwhile, JMC-Heritage has already purchased two vehicles to catch stray cattle. The rise of cattle population in the state has also forced residents of rural areas around Jaipur leave the stray animals in the capital. There are allegations that people from nearby villages are leaving their stray animals in the city areas as the cattle destroy their farms.
