Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday tore into the Opposition saying that the fight between the ruling and the Opposition was not a straight fight, and appealed to the people not to be carried away by the vitriolic campaign unleashed by some media outlets.
Launching a broadside at Telugu Desam Party and its allies at a public meeting in Narasaraopet, where he felicitated ward and village volunteers, Mr. Jagan compared the Opposition to the demon ‘Maaricha’, who changes his form whenever he wants.
“I have been telling you that we are not into a straight battle. We are fighting not against a system or a political party, but a group of ‘Marichas’, demons who can change their form whenever they want. These groups have neither ideological stand nor have offered any alternative. They can enter into alliances or break up whenever they want and can promise anything under the Sun and Moon. Even if they come into power, they throw the manifesto into the dust bin. Even their pre-poll alliances are opportunistic, if they think that they can gain by not allowing the anti-incumbency vote to split, they go to polls together, if they think a split in anti-incumbency vote is better, they go to polls separately. I appeal to my brothers and sisters not to believe this malicious campaign and ponder over the good things that happened over the last three years and make a decision. I urge people not to believe Chandrababu Naidu, his foster son (Pawan Kalyan) and the yellow media,” said Mr. Jagan.
He said that the Opposition had earned a notorious reputation for never implementing the tall promises made in the manifesto.
“These people are now saying that the State will turn into a Sri Lanka. While we are working hard to ensure the benefits of various welfare schemes reach the doorstep of people, the Opposition is saying that the State will turn into Sri Lanka and if they renege on promises made to people, the State will turn into America! Have they ever thought of DBT schemes which ensures that cash is directly credited into accounts of women? These parties have looted the State and left a pile of debt. Further, the yellow media has also twisted the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and me, publishing news that Mr. Modi has taken a class. Is it possible for any one to be present in a room where a PM and CM are meeting?” questioned Mr. Jagan.
