Jadon Sancho makes England vow after responding to latest call-up blow with Manchester United goal

Jadon Sancho insists he has not given up on a spot in England’s World Cup squad despite failing to earn a call-up from Gareth Southgate for the fifth time in a row.

A goal against FC Sheriff on Thursday night continued the Manchester United winger’s upturn in form but his performances were considered not enough to beat the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Jack Grealish to a spot in this month’s squad.

“Yeah, 100 per cent that is one of the targets,” he told MUTV of his Three Lions hopes.

“It's unfortunate that I didn't get the call-up, but I have to just keep focusing on myself and keep on working hard, week in and week out, that's what I'll do.”

Marcus Rashford also failed to earn a spot in the Nations League squad despite his improved displays, although the United attacker this week suffered a fresh injury blow.

Erik ten Hag said after the Sheriff victory that there is still more to come from both Rashford and Sancho.

“It's not up to me, it’s [for] the manager of England,” said the United boss.

“They are progressing, they are starting the season well, they will progress even more, I am convinced of that.”
