Jackson Koivun held a three stroke lead going into the final round of the 3M Open and, thanks to a five-under final round 66, he secured a PGA Tour win in his third professional start.
Carding rounds of 64, 68 and 61, the 21-year-old sat at 20-under through the first three rounds and, although World No.1 Scottie Scheffler was chasing him down, Koivun never looked under pressure as he produced a bogey-free round on Sunday.
Claiming a maiden title in his third start, Koivun was level-headed on Sunday, with only Scheffler making a charge on the final day.
Birdieing three of the first nine holes, further birdies at the 10th, 11th and 12th followed for Scheffler, who moved within a handful of shots of Koivun, who was three-under for the front nine.
Despite birdieing the 16th and 18th, Scheffer's score of 22-under was always going to be a few shots shy, especially when Koivun found a birdie at the 12th and then the 16th.
That left the 21-year-old three clear with two holes remaining and, following a par at the 17th, he managed to scrap a par at the last to not only win by three, but set the tournament record at 25-under.
Speaking after his win, Koivun stated: "I played a great round of golf today and I definitely had some nerves going down the 18th today.
"I wrote confidence, trust and dominate on my golf glove. Dominate is a word I came up with in college because I want to see how good I can play. It helps me a lot with my mindset and I kept doing it.
"I love this game and I love golf. It's been love at first sight and I want to thank my parents for getting me into the journey."
