Ivan Toney leaves Brentford and completes move to Al-Ahli

Ivan Toney has left Brentford to join Saudi side Al Ahli in a deal worth up to £40million.

The England striker agreed personal terms with the club days ago but was waiting on the green light as the two clubs worked towards an agreement over a fee.

That came early on deadline day, and Toney was soon travelling to a medical in London ahead of his proposed move to Saudi Arabia.

The final details of his move were ironed out over the course of deadline day and, now agreed, he is set to travel to the Middle East, bringing an end to his time at Brentford.

He has been left out of their matchday squads for all games so far this season amid talks over the proposed move to Al Ahli.

Toney joined the Bees in 2020 when they were still in the Championship. He joined following two years at Peterborough.

Brentford were aware of Toney’s desire to leave in January as well as this summer but had to accept terms below their £50m valuation of the 28-year-old in order to agree his exit.

Al Ahli’s first bid, worth £25m, was rejected by the Bees just over a fortnight ago but the Saudi side were always expected to return with an improved offer.

Toney, who previously attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, represented England at Euro 2024, making three cameo appearances including in the defeat to Spain in the final.

Al Ahli also reached an agreement with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen on deadline day, but the Saudi side could only afford to complete one deal and have now signed Toney instead of the Nigerian.
