Ivan Toney and Christian Eriksen help Brentford boost survival hopes with Burnley win

Brentford made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they left it late to beat Burnley yesterday afternoon.

The Bees' wait for a home win looked set to be extended further with over five minutes remaining, but a moment of magic from Christian Eriksen allowed Ivan Toney to head home past Nick Pope to break the deadlock.

The Dane was instrumental yet again as he released the striker down the right-hand side, where he was fouled by Nathan Collins who saw a straight red card, before sealing victory from the spot. It was a win that Thomas Frank's side deserved

Brentford reporter Uzzi Majid took a look at some of the talking points from yesterday's win over Sean Dyche's side.

Huge step towards safety

It was a victory that was priceless from a Brentford perspective, but also one that might secure their status for next season. Taking six points from Norwich and Burnley will have been a relief for Thomas Frank and the players, after only one win since the new year began.

The Bees are now nine points above the drop, and seven clear of Leeds United who are in action later on. Considering some of the beatings they took, they've regrouped well and shown incredible resilience to get their season back on track when their heads could have easily dropped.

Toney steps up yet again

Ivan Toney didn't have much of a sniff in the first half, but was more than a match for Burnley's centre halves in Nathan Collins and former Bee James Tarkowski, but the striker stepped up when Brentford needed him and put them a great position regarding their league position.

His brace took the striker to 11 league goals for the season in what has been a surreal season for the Brentford forward, having come up to the top flight following his first season at Championship level. A remarkable rise for the striker who turns 26 later next week.

Classy Christian

There were some doubts when Brentford signed Christian Eriksen as to whether the Dane could cut his teeth at this level having suffered a heart attack, but he has certainly made those who doubted him, eat their words as he delivered another incredible performance.

His pinpoint cross found Toney to break the deadlock, and after albeit great work from Yoane Wissa to keep the ball in play, the Dane released Toney who ended up winning the penalty to seal victory. Eriksen has been a diamond in this Bees team and has already helped Brentford get six points already. Frank will be hoping for many more.

Weathering the storm

Despite the scoreline, Brentford did not have it all their own way. Maxwel Cornet proved to be a thorn for the Bees' defence, particularly Pontus Jansson, with the Ivorian lashing a shot just wide of Raya's left-hand post. Cornet almost gave them the lead when Rico Henry's backpass found its way to the Ivorian, but Raya denied him.

Jay Rodriguez almost made the immediate impact when his effort from distance hit the underside of the crossbar with Raya beaten, towards the end of the game. For Brentford to absorb pressure and deliver the knockout blow, showed real determination and grit which Frank would have been happy with.

Formation change paying dividends

Thomas Frank had been under pressure from a number of fans to go from a back five to a back four, which he experimented in the home defeat against Newcastle a fortnight ago. That aberration aside, it's worked a treat so far with two wins in three league games.

The Bees have adopted 4-3-3 with Kristoffer Ajer operating at RB, where he has looked relatively comfortable. Sergi Canos has looked much more comfortable at LW and Christian Eriksen has been working his magic from midfield. Long may it continue until the end of the season.
