ITV Vera fans turn detective in search for copper’s mysterious mug

Eagle-eyed fans of Brenda Blethyn’s TV detective Vera Stanhope are on the hunt for a specific piece of crockery.

Known for her sweet tooth and hampering for a brew, Vera is often seen back in the police station enjoying both.

But fans have taken a particular liking to Vera’s favourite mug. The yellow tea receptacle has no identifiable brand or logo and instead sports a snowflake-type design of what can only be described as flowers, stickmen or funky geometric arrows.

One Vera fan on Reddit said: “I love Vera. If anyone knows what that logo/design is on the yellow mug she uses, I'd love to know. Is it a museum? University? Random design?”

Viewer Babstoy added: “Thank you so much for mentioning the mug! So crazy that someone else noticed that, I thought for sure I was alone on that - it looks so warm and cozy, I’m convinced coffee would taste better out of it.”

They added: "It’s been through so many series. I even googled “Vera mug” to try to see if I could identify and get one for myself, but only found mugs with Vera on them."

It doesn’t show up in Google search results and any brand has yet to claim it as one of their own designs. Some viewers have even turned to Vera herself to solve the mystery, asking actress Brenda Blethyn for their help in tracking it down.

With no luck so far though, fans will have to keep searching for the mysterious mug for a while longer. The Chronicle has reached out to ITV Studios to see if they can help with fans' search.

Vera continues on ITV this Sunday, January 22, with episode six of series 11, called The Way the Wind Blows. The episode is the last of the "missing" episodes of the series, which was taken off air at the start of 2022.

Production for the series was put on hold due to the pandemic, which forced ITV bosses to spread out when the available episodes would be broadcast. Instead of broadcasting the remaining two episodes of season 11 on their own, the decision was made to show them directly before the beginning of season 12.

Therefore fans need not worry as there's no wait between seasons. Episode one of season 12 will show next week, January 29, and will continue until February 19.

The season will include an episode based on one of the original Vera books, written by Ann Cleeves. The finale episode is said to take its narrative from the ninth book in the series, The Darkest Evening, which features Vera reuniting with her estranged family on a dark and stormy evening.
