This Morning fans didn't appear impressed as Josie Gibson and Andi Peters welcomed one of their latest guests onto the show. The popular pair were back fronting the ITV daytime programme on Wednesday (January 4) as they kick off the first string of shows of 2023.
The latest show saw Josie and Andi joined by Dave Fishwick, aka Bank of Dave, who was on hand to offer some money-saving advice, as well as former rugby star James Haskell who was promoting his new book, and the Body Coach himself Joe Wicks who demonstrated some heart-pumping moves to kickstart the new year.
But it wasn't any of those guests that sparked confusion and despair among viewers who had tuned in to This Morning at home.
Former Big Brother winner Josie and ITV competition favourite Andi gave viewers a little bit of an insight into the shoe-shining industry following the news that Kiwi shoe polish is set to disappear from UK shelves.
A spokesperson for Kiwi, which was originally founded in 190, said earlier this week that "a rise in casual shoes that don’t require formal polishing and an overall decrease in consumers polishing their shoes in the UK" had resulted in their decision to withdraw from the UK market.
However, with Kiwi sold in more than 180 countries, the spokesperson stressed that "it would continue to remain active in markets where formal shoe care remains relevant."
As a result of the move, Josie and Andi welcomed a man named Ronnie into the studio who was able to give Andi's shoes the once over. The presenter was seen sat atop a traditional shoe shine chair while Josie sat on the sofa alongside him.
And during the segment, Josie revealed that she used to polish shoes for a living. "Not on your level," she admitted to Ronnie but Andi was still flabbergasted. "Really?" he asked. "The things you learn on a Wednesday!" But it appears not everyone watching was riveted by the shoe-shining segment.
@_LucasMichael_ tweeted: "Am I really spending my day off watching Andi Peters get his shoes polished? #ThisMorning." @leeshthomasxo complained: "Can tell they’re running out of ideas… how to polish your shoes. Ffs #ThisMorning." @charters65 slammed: "'How to polish your shoes' you really are scraping the barrel now #thismorning."
