This Morning viewers were giving their eyes an extra rub this lunchtime when they thought they were 'hallucinating' during the latest episode. The ITV daytime show was back on air on Monday (December 12) with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary at the helm.
The hosting pair are usually the main presenters for This Morning's Friday episodes and take over as main hosts during the holidays. But Alison and Dermot appear to have taken the reins earlier than usual following Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield's last stint of the year on the show last Friday (December 9).
Taking to social media ahead of Friday's programme, Phil posted a photo of an early morning glass of port to his Instagram story. He captioned it: "Last day for the @thismorning make-up room therapy gang. Port at 8am." Holly and Phillip then enjoyed a festive-filled episode before saying their goodbyes for the Christmas period.
But as already mentioned, the show was left in safe hands with Alison and Dermot at the helm. And the pair kicked off the week with another busy show, starting with discussing the latest news headlines with Vanessa Feltz and Gyles Brandreth. Prior to that, though, they teased another important guest - Basil Brush.
The foxy character then later appeared for a chat with the hosts about his new festive hit Boom Boom It's Christmas before performing the Christmas tune alongside Mr Blobby and Bungle from Rainbow.
While it was already a bonkers performance, things only got more unruly when Mr Blobby appeared to lose all control, crashing into the snowy trees set up as a backdrop for the stuio performance. He seemed to jump on the branches before hitting the floor. The giant pink character then kicked the gifts before returning to fihgit with the trees, knocking them over before slipping again.
Watching the scenes unfold, @Kezarus1 tweeted: "I was about to say, I’ve never seen Mr Blobby so well behaved but that didn’t last long #ThisMorning." @EnfieldGarry laughed; "Mr Blobby falling over, brilliant. #ThisMorning." @lostgate92 commented: "Mr Blobby wrecking s**t will never not be funny #ThisMorning."
Others, however, may not have been as keen. @t_catttt said: "#thismorning are we 8 ..it's Monday!..basil brush and Mr blobby !. Give me strength!!" @craggsy82 asked: "Am I Hallucinating? #thismorning." @Mark071932922 fumed: "#thismorning please stop having the #basilbrush rubbish on. It’s not funny whatsoever and hasn’t aged very well. In fact it’s pathetic."
But there was a moment that some viewers spotted just before the credits began to roll on the first episode of This Morning of the week. As Alison and Dermot followed Basil's performance by teasing what's to come on tomorrows show and say goodbye, Mr Blobby was spotted diving into the picture and 'tackling' Alison as @mrcadlupton tweeted: "Did Mr blobby just rugby tackle Alison Hammond in the closing moments of @thismorning?"
