ITV This Morning slammed by viewers for 'embarrassing' segment on 'how to plant a sunflower for Ukraine'

This Morning viewers have been left unimpressed by a segment in which they were shown 'how to plant a sunflower for Ukraine'.

The show has spent time in the last couple of weeks speaking about Russia's invasion of Ukraine which is now in its 14th day.

Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield were back during Wednesday's edition of the ITV daytime show where the hosts once again shared an emotional update on the real-life impact in Ukraine.

But in another, lighter, part of the show the hosts were joined in the studio by Daisy Payne, who showed viewers how to plant a sunflower, which is the national flower of Ukraine.

During the segment, Daisy showed viewers exactly what they needed to do, turning the usual This Morning kitchen that had been adorned with the bright yellow flower into a temporary gardening space, with Holly and Phillip following along with their own pots and soil.

@ThisIsJ8 tweeted: "Growing sunflowers ‘for Ukraine’ is about as helpful as ‘thoughts & prayers’ #ThisMorning."

"Oh I hope the people of Ukraine are able to watch Daisy planting sunflowers for them. Actually I really hope they can't. Embarrassing. #ThisMorning," @SlapstickSally said.

@notonmytv fumed: "@thismorning @ITV #itv #ThisMorning @hollywills @Schofe please tell me how growing a sunflower is helping the poor people of Ukraine???? Will it feed them? Cloth them? Crass and disgusting."

Other viewers felt like they were being treated like they were 'thick' due to the simplicity of the segment.

@lisamj_33 said: "How to plant a sunflower on #ThisMorning coming up tomorrow how to make beans on toast."

"Really though, who doesn't know how to plant a sunflower seed #ThisMorning," @Joe_589 tweeted.

@demelcy commented: "How to grow a sunflower? For real?? #ThisMorning."

"This show must all think we’re thick as pig s**t imagine having a full segment about planting sunflowers, next minute they’ll be telling us how to tie your shoelaces or boiling an egg #ThisMorning," @TinyPurplePug complained.
